Christmas 2005 sees the birth of the Espace Diamant, a project initiated by the resort of Les Saisies. It brings together the Savoyard village resorts of Les Saisies/Hauteluce/Bisanne 1500 in the Beaufortain and Notre-Dame de Bellecombe , Crest-Voland/Cohennoz, Flumet and Praz sur Arly in the Val d’Arly. The Espace Diamant is a ski area dedicated to all sorts of skiing from the runs crossing the alpine pastures to descents through spruce forests. Two signposted routes are being put in place to help holidaymakers to cover the whole of the skiing area and discover the different facets of this particular “diamond”. From each summit inb the area there is a fantastic view of the surrounding peaks – Mont Blanc, the Beaufortain massif, Les Aravis and, in the far distance, the Chartreuse.
Describing this area as authentic and preserved is not using vain words for here the alpine pasture chalets cling to the snow covered slopes and the small hamlets have really kept their souls and character. In addition to the creation of new runs which are accessible to the majority of skiers this development also opens up a beautiful area of off-piste skiing. In particular the itinerary from the summit of the Douce chairlift takes skiers to the Les Près hamlet, where a free shuttle services takes skiers back to the resort.
